         Meet Nicholas Sanfilipo, MA, LPCC

Thank you for your interest and consideration of Play Therapy for your child.  I have been working with children, ages infant through adolescents for approximately seventeen years.  I was fortunate to have worked for seven of those years with the Community Lighthouse, where I received extensive world-class training, supervision, and direct experience in Experiential Play Therapy.

With gratitude and a deep appreciation to those that have helped me in becoming the highly skilled play therapist that I am today, I humbly, and with great joy, would be honored to work with you and your child.

Should my child get Play Therapy?

Parents do their best, but sometimes feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or

even guilty, where despite all of their efforts, their child continues to

misbehave. The hardest part is that parents and kids want to return

to having a better relationship, but sometimes, they just don't know how

to get there.

Children experiencing multiple changes in their lives, ongoing stress,

conflicts and or trauma, will often resort to "acting-out" at

home, school and in the community. If you notice your child's "acting out"

is done much more than that of their same age peers, and they're doing

things like,

  •    Multiple daily tantrums

  •    hitting, throwing things, or breaking things

  •    frequent yelling, crying, or screaming

  •    not following or ignoring directions

  •    fighting with siblings, peers and adults...

then yes! Play Therapy can help!!

Why and how does Play Therapy work?

Children haven't yet developed the same ability or skill level as adults

have for abstraction, reasoning, or vocabulary, which makes play therapy

"a natural fit" for children. Play therapy offers a way for children to

naturally, from an emotionally/psychologically safe space, work (play) through

their stresses, worries, conflicts and traumatic experiences.

Benefits from Play Therapy

Included among the benefits for children from play therapy are improved,

  •    overall mood and behavior

  •    feelings of self-worth

  •    Verbalization of needs and feelings

  •    play skills/social skills, and
